The number of fatalities from the crash of an Air Force training fighter jet into a building at Milestone School and College in Uttara, the capital, has increased to 27. Currently, 78 individuals are receiving treatment at various hospitals. To date, the remains of 20 individuals have been returned to their families.
This information was conveyed by Md. Sayedur Rahman, special assistant to the chief advisor at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in the capital, following an announcement made after 8 am on Tuesday.Sayedur Rahman urged everyone to pray for the injured children. He also requested that the hospital not be overcrowded. Furthermore, he mentioned that there are sufficient blood donors available, although some blood from the negative group will be required.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the aircraft crashed into the school building shortly after its departure from the AK Khandaker Air Force Base in Kurmitola at 1:06 pm yesterday. The Fire Service and Civil Defense were notified of the incident at 1:18 pm.
It was later confirmed that the Air Force's FT-7 BGI fighter jet collided with a two-story building located on the school's grounds. The Chinese-manufactured fighter jet, designated for training, crashed into the school building in Uttara due to a mechanical failure.
The school building was engulfed in flames immediately following the crash. The area was filled with the anguished cries of burned children and the desperate calls of parents and relatives searching for their loved ones. As per the latest reports, at least 171 individuals sustained injuries in this tragic incident.
